Free photos for your blog can seem easy at first with Google Images. But this is not always legal. Google even writes that the "image may be scaled down and subject to copyright." You must research the image to find if it is copyrighted or not. You can however use Google Images if you use the advanced search by clicking "search only pages that are free to use, share or modify, even commercially." When you do this, you will definitely see a difference in the results. Now at first using these copyrighted images on your blog may seem harmless, but imagine your blog years down the road, full of possible copyrighted images. Risking this may not be so smart, especially if you are working to get your blog noticed. I'm sure there are many that are not very happy with the use of their images for free. Thankfully, there are quite a few good places on-line where you can legally download a free images for blogs. When looking for free images to use, I've just had trouble finding a high quality photo quick and easily. I like to steer clear of long drawn-out searches for the perfect image, because I am usually under a deadline. I've also found, the free sites like to get you in to look at images that cost, as well - It seems quite often, when taking the route of searching for free images, I get lost in a lot of images that will cost me something. Today I'd like to give you a few of my favorite websites to find images that you can use to get some high quality photos to use legally and free, just by giving the photographer a credit.

Free Photos For Your Blog At Flicker

Flicker is a place that has high quality images that you can use for free. First go to Flicker.com, go to the Explore tab, and then scroll down until you see Creative Commons. "Creative Commons is a non-profit that offers an alternative to full copyright." They provide some simple licenses that allow you to use their images. I like to use the Attribution License, because it has the least restrictions making it easier, quicker, and less likely to do something wrong. You will need to give the photographer an attribute to use an image for free, under the Attribution License. To abide by Flicker and Creative Commons, you will need to link the photo back to the originial in Flicker. They make it easy to download photos in various sizes, or copy a handy premade html code. The code will already have the image linked back to flicker and is sufficient for the photographer attribute. I do add a couple of things to the link. First, I add rel="nofollow" inbetween the 'a' and the 'href,' for SEO purposes. To make sure that the link will open in a new window and leave the reader on my blog, I add target="_blank" to the link as well.

My Favorite Places to Find Free Photos For Your Blog

Freedigitalphotos.net is one of my favorite places to look to get photos for your blog. You can use images for free at this site if you give the author an attribute by linking back to them at freedigitalphotos.net. You can choose from photos or illustrations that look great on blogs. You can put the attribute under the photo, as well as at the end of the post. Once you find the picture you like, click on the "acknowledgment required" link and it will give you some html code to copy that will make the attribute link for you. You can change the wording of the link up, so long as it still links back, and I do the same steps as before.

IconFinder.com is also one of my favorite places to find photos for your blog. You can easily look for icons, which come in various sizes, making them easy to use for photos for your blog. Keep in mind these icons are not owned by Iconfinder.com. All you need to do is make sure to read the license the icon is under by choosing the info tab for the icon to check. There you can view what kind of license it has. I have found many images that you can use for commercial use for free on the site. Many you can use with the author attribute alone, as well. With the easy search and the info tab so readily available it makes searching for free images to use quick.

CreativeCommons.org is a Great Place to Go to Find Free Photos For Your Blog

Going straight to CreativeCommons.org is another great way to find free photos for your blog. There you will find works that are licensed that you can share, reuse or remix. Just click the Find search, and it will have some tabs you can search through over at Google (already checked to the advanced search you need to find the free images you're allowed to use), Flicker, and a few others. It's a great place to submit works of your own for others to use as well. So as you can see, finding photos for your blog that you can use for free Legally is quite simple, no need to go risk breaking any copyright laws!
